From Commissioner Bowen:
"Each year in May we take a moment across our nation to recognize and honor older Americans. In Vermont, our Age Strong Vermont plan works to have that recognition be incorporated into our policies, programs and operations, so that every day is a day to honor older Vermonters. It is particularly important to understand the role of ageism in our society and the importance of highlighting the strength of experience and wisdom among this growing group of Vermonters. Active in the workforce, representing the backbone of many volunteer efforts, supporting family, older Vermonters are vibrant and critical contributors to our society. The Governor’s Proclamation formalizes these sentiments. It highlights the theme for this year’s Older American Month, “Flip the Script on Aging.” Older Vermonters represent our past and guide our future. It is indeed an honor to represent the Vermont Department of Disabilities, Aging and Independent Living and to work with so many individuals dedicated to making Vermont the best state in which to grow old or to live with a disability – with dignity, respect and independence."
On May 1, 2025, Governor Scott issued a proclamation designating the month of May as "Older Vermonters Month".
